How to Care for Your Baksana Towels FAQ

WASHING AND DRYING:

What water quality is best for washing Baksana Towels?

It is recommended to use soft water for washing Towels. Hard water may leave mineral deposits on the towels over time which can affect their softness, absorbency, and can cause discolouration. Using a water softener or vinegar during a wash cycle can help mitigate the impact of hard water. Additionally, regular cleaning of the washing machine can prevent mineral buildup, ensuring cleaner rinses for your towels.

Powder vs Liquid detergent?

We recommend using a gentle powder detergent that doesn’t contain any whitening agents, such as Persil Sensitive Powder. Do not add powder or liquid directly onto your towels, as this can lead to discolouration and spots. Ensure the detergent is diluted in water before it comes into contact with your towels.

Should I separate colours when washing Baksana Towels?

Avoid washing whites with other laundry, especially dark colours in other garments to prevent colour bleeding. Baksana Towels are made to withstand 60ºC without colour run, this means that the colour won’t bleed if you wash two different coloured Baksana Towels together.

Can I wash Baksana Towels with other items like jeans?

It is best to wash your Baksana Towels on their own to prevent friction with heavier items like jeans, jackets with zips, or even bras with hooks, which can cause damage or pulling. We also recommend not to overload your washing machine as this can also cause damage to your towels and create an uneven wash.

Can I use fabric softener on Baksana Towels?

It is not recommended to use fabric softener on Baksana Towels. Fabric softeners may reduce the towels’ absorbency and affect the natural fibres' properties. Your Baksana towels should continue to stay soft without fabric softeners if the care instructions are followed.

How should I dry my towels to achieve the best results?

Line dry towels until they are touch dry, then finish them in the dryer on a low heat setting. This two-step process helps preserve the towels’ softness, makes them fluffier, and extends their lifespan. Alternatively, your towels can be tumble dried on a low heat setting. Avoid excessive heat as this can damage your towels.

COMMON PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS:

What is the most common problem with towels?

The most common problem with towels is a discolouration or spotty appearance on the towels after washing. To prevent discolouration, separate the towels from other laundry. Avoid using bleach and opt for a gentle detergent. If you notice spots before washing, try pre-soaking the towels in a mixture of water and white vinegar before washing your towels.

What are the common causes of discolouration or spots on towels?

- Washing Powder/Liquid Residue: Insufficient dissolving or using an excessive amount of washing detergent can leave behind residues on the towels. These residues can build up over time and can cause spots and patches that make the towels appear faded or discoloured when they come out of the wash.

- Chemical Interactions: Contact with chlorine-based products or bleach can lead to chemical reactions with the dyes in towels before washing or during the wash cycle. Chlorine and bleach both have strong oxidising properties which can strip or alter the colour pigments in the fabric, causing permanent discolouration of your towels.

-Makeup and Skincare Residues: Products like foundation, skincare, hair products, acne treatment, and whitening toothpaste contain ingredients that can transfer onto towels when in contact with each other. Many of these products contain pigments, dyes, or active ingredients that may not completely wash out during a wash cycle. These residues can cling to the fibres in the towel and can cause discolouration. To minimise transfer, avoid direct contact between freshly applied skincare or makeup and your towels. Pre-treating stained areas before washing might also help remove these residues effectively.

How do I prevent the border band from gathering?

To prevent gathering in border bands, avoid overloading the washing machine. Shake out towels before placing them in the machine, ensuring they are spread evenly. If your border band has already started to gather, stretch the border band when the towels are damp to get it back into shape.

What happens if I pull a snag in my towel?

Baksana towels are woven, not knitted, so a pulled loop will not unravel. If you do snag your towel, simply cut the snagged loop off with sharp scissors.

What are other common problems?

Other potential problems may include pulling, rough texture, or the shedding of lint. To minimise these problems, wash towels separately, avoid overloading the washing machine, and follow the care instructions diligently. Finishing your towels in a tumble drier would also assist in the removal of any excess lint you may experience.
